Retrograde Ripoff

Aug 8, 2025

It’s happened again, fans. My twelve-year-old-self has been ruthlessly ripped off by Golden Age comics writers using some kind of retrograde mind scanning device. Case in point… above is my sixth grade creation I dubbed The Lunar Cadets. The opening splash page pretty much says it all. A new lunar police force created to maintain law and order at Moonbase One. Each of the cadets had their own skill-set that they bring to the table with the group even including a Martian, Eexlop Cole.

Imagine my surprise when I recently came across the Space Squadron. The cover even includes an eerily similar listing of the cast… including  A MARTIAN! It’s my fault really. I probably should have copyrighted my Lunar Cadets at the time. I finally managed to do that years later when two faux Lunar Cadet covers ran in Funky illustrated by a couple of comics greats Paul Gulacy and Don Perlin. Better late than never I say.
