Match to Flame 177

So, in the previous Funky volumes, I spoke predominantly to the writing aspect of comics and the constraints encountered therein, and I don’t want to pull on your coat anymore about that here (although I might; it’s still early in the intro, so I’m not making any promises). Rather I would refer you to the previous two volumes of this collection, which presented the case pretty thoroughly. However, this is an art form that encompasses both Writing and Art, intertwined in such a way that makes it indistinguishable as to which form is carrying the load. So, concentrating primarily on the writing as I’ve done previously ignores an important part of the equation, and I’d like to try to remedy that here. It’s a propitious moment to do this because the art changes found in this particular collection contributed profoundly to Funky’s growth and are crucial to the way in which the strip developed.
