Batty Batom Bullpen – Tom Palmer

Nov 4, 2017

When I contacted Tom Palmer about creating a cover for me I gave him a choice of two remaining Batom characters and he opted for the Cockroach. I even suggested that the cover could show the Cockroach strapped to a slab in the laboratory of the evil Brainstorm about to have his brain switched with an actual cockroach strapped to a slab next to him. Cute, right? Well, when the cover arrived, it was fantastic, but it featured a cockroach quite a bit larger than I had imagined. So I got to channel my inner Stan Lee and provide some dialog that would explain the whole thing, and the end result turned out to be even better than I had imagined. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to the original art when it’s auction off by Heritage Auctions in two weeks for the benefit of the Lisa’s Legacy Fund for cancer research, but Tom was kind enough to send along a really sharp print that I can keep in my studio and continue to enjoy. I’ve met so many great guys on this journey that it’s going to be sad to see this project conclude.
