Postscript: Oh, and Cathy and I did make it to Africa and the climb of Kilimanjaro. The process of getting ready helped return me to almost good as new, and it met expectations in nearly every other way as well. The one illusion that failed to survive reality (spoiler warning!) was my conception of what a jungle was. At one point we had spent the morning walking through a large woods, and I had begun to wonder when we would get to the actual jungle itself. Then I realized that we had been walking through the jungle the whole time. So there you have it; a jungle is just a big woods . . . with monkeys.
