For better or worse, that’s my process. Except of course for one final step. Once back in the cozy confines of my studio, after hugging my drawing board and making sure that nothing had been moved while I was gone *sigh*, I’ll put on my boxed set of Paul Desmond’s RCA recordings (okay . . . so I have one teeny, weensy, little writing superstition habit—I implore you . . . ignore me), spread my pictures and notes across my drawing board, settle into my comfortable chair, open my trusty laptop, flex my fingers, and write the eyeballs out of it.
