Here’s a pretty extreme example of an expository splash page. There’s enough expository dialog here to choke a horse. First the readers are brought up to speed, and then the stage is set. All served beautifully by Gene Colan’s art which turns it into a pretty exciting splash. Today’s comics don’t even attempt this. Now all you get is a block of text often with no art at all.
