The thoughtful quiet

We’re slipping into my favorite season here at the comics castle. An English Oak that succumbed to oak wilt this past summer will now become this winter’s firewood. Sadly, as climate damage expands, the trees here are becoming vulnurable to different invasive species.

I’m rereading Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings this fall and winter and he describes this moment as “…feeling about them the deep and thoughtful quiet of winter.”
