Match to Flame 227

When you do something like climb a mountain, you take a ton of pictures. So researching the story wasn’t ever going to be a problem, but knowing in advance that I would now be writing about the experience certainly influenced the pictures I took. However, the quintessential picture of the climb was taken by Cathy just as she was reaching the summit. It was an amazing shot that caught the summit of Kilimanjaro at dawn. I would later show it to Ed Huckeby, a composer for Barnhouse Music (the company that published my band book collections), and he would use it as the cover for a piece he wrote called “Sunrise over Kilimanjaro.” It was a perfect capstone to my recovery and our climb.
